Vinyl toy safety

I would like to respond to the article Nov. 25 entitled "Group
says smaller toys pose bigger risk of choking. "

It's nice that a group of Indiana University students involved
in InPIRG want to remind parents of the one or two hazards out of
the hundreds when raising our kids. However, it's obvious that
these IU kids didn't do their homework when it comes to opposing
vinyl toys.

Phthalates, which InPIRG says is a cancer toxic in vinyl toys,
have been in use and researched for 25 years. No phthalate study
has ever found cancer in humans or mammals that are closely related
to humans. It's obvious InPIRG was spoon-fed inaccurate information
without researching the other side.

This chemical is safe in toys and vastly improves our quality of
life in many areas. Parents should not worry.  If you are concerned
